Posted on August 21st 2009
As an intrepid boat explorer what kind of boat insurance would you need? If your Peter Bray ex-SAS sergeant and adventurous canoeist you'll need boat insurance that takes you beyond the English Channel!
In his latest attempt Bray felt compelled to try and break yet another world record by rowing across the Atlantic Ocean solo in the quickest time for a canoeist. The crossing between the Isle of Scilly and Newfoundland is over 3000 kilometres in distance.
Bray who is raising fund for Help the Heroes has unfortunately had to call off his latest attempt to cross the ocean by himself when he ran into difficulty due to bad weather conditions. He released his call for help to coast guard in Falmouth who sent out message for any passing ships to aid his rescue. A researcher ship was expected to rendezvous with Bray before midday on Wednesday 19 August.
The lone canoeist reported that wind speeds were as high as 46 knots and wave swells were arching above 6 metres; Bray, who has had serious experience with such conditions, new it was time to call it a day. As part of the four man team trying to cross the Atlantic in the quickest time their boat, Pink Lady, was torn in half by severe weather conditions caused by the tail end of Hurricane Alex in 2004.
Bray had been hoping to beat the 64-day record on his specially built Black Knight; however has had to release a distress signal.
Insure My Boat provides boat insurance for ship owners ashore or afloat on inland or coastal waters and can even arrange selective European cover for further Mediterranean travel.
