Abandoned Barge found by fisherman
Posted on January 26th 2009
An abandoned 60 foot barge has been found by a Poole fisherman around 30 miles south of the Isle of Wight.
The barge, named Ditte Caplan, was found adrift in the middle of the shipping lanes so one of the fisherman’s crew members climbed aboard, finding that it had a broken tow chain.
It was owned by a Norwegian Firm who sold it to a Nigerian Company and was believed to have last been spotted being towed out of a Dutch Fishing Vessel.
The abandoned barge, which the fisherman towed back to Poole Quay, is now being inspected by the Police who are said to be very interested.
