1959 was host to many historical events; the release of the Barbie doll, Nottingham Forest beat Luton Town in the FA cup final 2-1, the Vietnam War is declared and a fishing boat containing 12 crew crashes into rocks and kills all on board. It is now 50 years later that the son of one of the 12 lost fishermen has called for a memorial to be held in their honour.
The incident occurred on December 7th 1959, Duncansby Head, were the Aberdeen trawler sailed into a island of rocks and sank as a result of the damages. The total number of victims increased to 13 when a coastguard collapsed while trying to aid those onboard. Eddie Dugan son of Robert Dugan one of the fishermen who lost their lives has called for a permanent memorial in honour and remembrance for the men who died.
Eddie Dugan said: "I think it would be nice if there was a memorial somewhere, some sort of tribute. It's a very special man that goes to sea."
