Posted on November 19th 2008
Michael Perham, 16,from Hertfordshire is about to set off on one of his most exciting challenges to date, solo circumnavigation. He is already the youngest person to sail single handed across the Atlantic.
The young boy will leave Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth on Saturday the 15 November and will be spending the night in Falmouth preparing to leave there on the 18 November 2008 and is expected to return sometime near his 17th birthday in March 2009.
The young sailor is looking forward to being in complete control and feeling relaxed amongst nature. The only thing he isn’t looking forward to is being alone for four months. This will be the longest time he has spent alone. He will still have contact with his family via satellite links. His family have put together a pile of gifts and decorations so that he could have a special Christmas on the sea.
He will still be required to do his homework. He will be taking assignments with him as part of his BTEC National Diploma in sports.
